Eric started piano lessons at a young age and took up the saxophone at age 12. After high school Eric spent a year studying music at the University of Louisville during which time he played in the music department's jazz band, backing up vocalist Kevin Mahogany and jazz legend Clark Terry. In 1999 he joined legendary blues singer Bobby "Blue" Bland's group and spent the next year and a half playing the blues across North America in nightclubs, theatres, and at venues such as the Monterey Jazz Festival, The Chicago Blues Festival, and the Essence Festival in New Orleans. In 2000 Eric toured the U.K. with Bobby "Blue" Bland and Van Morrison. Eric graduated in 2003 with a B.F.A. from New School University in New York City, having studied closely with many teachers including pioneering jazz bassist Reggie Workman and Saturday Night Live percussionist Valerie Naranjo. He also has also performed at the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana and in Tokyo, Japan with the Gospel Voices of Memphis. Eric has taught music in the Memphis City Schools, Florida's Pasco County Schools, and currently teaches at Genesis Preparatory School where he has developed a concert band, jazz band, and diverse instrumental music program. In 2007, Eric and his wife Marina founded Mullins Music, continuing to follow their passion for music and striving to pass it on to future generations.
